John Kennedy, OBE
9th Venture Scout Leader (1972−1975)

John went on to take up a range of positions in SHQ, culminating as Treasurer of Scottish Scouting for many years.

Barry Donald-Hewitt, Chief Volunteer of Scotland wrote the following on South West Scotland Scout’s Facebook page:
“Huge congratulations to John Kennedy on being awarded an OBE [in the New Year Honours List].
His 46 years of incredible service to Scouting have inspired so many of us, and I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this honour.
John has dedicated his life to creating unforgettable opportunities for young people, from adventurous outdoor activities to international trips.
As Camp Chief of Blair Atholl, he brought together thousands of Scouts from
Scotland and around the world, building friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.
He’s also been a constant source of support for adult volunteers, sharing his expertise and
ensuring strong leadership and governance at every level of Scouting, from local Groups to national and UK roles.
John is currently the treasurer for Scouts Scotland and the Blair Atholl Jamborette; he is also a member of the Scouts Scotland Service Team.
John’s passion, vision and kindness have left a lasting impact on so many lives.
Thank you, John, for everything you’ve done so far and congratulations on this richly deserved recognition.”
